Rare Carat Synthetic Diamonds are the future of engagement rings. The art of creating these synthetic diamonds started back in the 1800s when scientists used an embedded metal catalyst to remove carbon atoms from a diamond, thereby creating a mass of pure carbon. The process to create these synthetic diamonds was only perfected in the 1960s by the American scientist, Richard Schrock.
Today, the process developed by Schrock is used by several manufacturers of synthetic diamonds. However, only a handful of these manufacturers produce diamonds with the same chemical and physical properties as naturally mined diamonds.
1. It is cheap
The majority of the synthetic diamond’s material has already been mined. Synthetic diamonds are manufactured by heating carbon to around 1500 degrees Celsius until it is in a powder form, but they are still highly polished. The rough diamond consists of a pure carbon structure with millions of points on the surface. While rough diamonds are extremely rare, only 4 percent of the world’s natural diamonds are mined each year.
2. It can be created in any shape
The majority of the synthetic diamonds produced today come in a round shape and possess an octagonal pattern (known as an “octahedral” pattern). However, these synthetic diamonds can also be created in any shape. Manufacturers are now able to produce synthetic round diamonds with the hardest, most beautiful shapes and patterns that are produced by nature. The luster of the synthetic diamond has increased by over 70 percent from the rough diamond.
The color of the synthetic diamond is also exceptional, and just like a natural diamond, it will possess a light yellow or brownish hue. In addition to these three properties: beauty and high luster shine, amazing color, and high hardness-the synthetic diamond is expected to have some advantage over its natural counterpart.
3. It is perfect for a variety of settings
In addition to the traditional settings that are used to mount diamond jewelry, these synthetic diamonds can also be used in other settings. These diamonds can be joined together to make stunning and rare new designs. The Rare Carat Diamonds are expected to be incredibly popular with young couples who are shopping for engagement rings, as well as celebrities looking for the perfect statement piece of jewelry. In addition to these benefits, there is yet another benefit that no one is really thinking about; but it is there and that is more than just mounting a diamond in a prong-setting ring.
4. It doesn’t just hold a diamond
When a synthetic diamond is mounted in a ring setting, the person wearing the ring can symbolically share that diamond with their partner as a token of love. Although the engagement ring has long been used as such an expression of love and commitment, it has become an industry of its own. The costs associated with purchasing an expensive engagement ring have become burdensome to many people. These days, the average cost of an engagement ring is around $3,000; and that’s just in America alone!
5. It will be very popular
Modern society is obsessed with demonstrating their wealth, and the engagement ring industry has taken the cue. In America alone, between 80 and 90 percent of all engagement rings are custom-made to match the couple’s expectations. Furthermore, approximately 5 percent of all engagement rings are diamonds set in platinum (platinum is a very expensive metal). Because of this demand by young couples for diamonds set in platinum settings, much of this platinum is manufactured synthetically as well.
