Are you afraid of wearing your hair? How to get used to wearing a topper
Finally! After suffering from thinning hair, and bald spots you can no longer hide, or worse, a fall of your hair at once, you have some new hair! And yet, you’re terrified! What if your coworkers or the people in your office notice that your hair has suddenly become amazing?
First, most people are not so observant of changes like that. When you wear your new hair for the first time, nearly 100% of the time, people will say, “Wow, you look great!” They may ask, “Did you get your hair done?” The answer to this can be “yes.”
If you’re open about your hair loss issue, feel free to say, “This is a new hair topper!” and bask in the compliments. At my dentist’s office, the staff told me they love it when I come to see what I’m wearing now! How encouraging is that?!
If you’re not open about your hair loss issue (or at least not at church/work/the grocery store line), then enjoy the compliments. No one will ever say, “So, is this a wig?” And if they do, you can lean over and say, “OMG, yessss, girl, I’m almost like a celebrity now; they ALL wear hairpieces!”
It Will Feel and Look Unfamiliar at First
You got used to your thinning hair. You did. You see less and less every day, but you’ve gotten used to it. It will work the same way with your new hair. I suggest you look at photos of yourself before you lose your hair and during hair loss. Odds are, you’ll start to see how thin your hair was and how big those patches were. You’ll probably wonder why you didn’t wear it before now.
Pause here for a second. There’s no reason to not rock a bald head, a shaved head, or a super-cropped cut. Many famous people, from actors to athletes, have gone bald, shaved their heads, or cut their hair very short because they are losing their hair. Go get some fantastic statement earrings and rock that look.
But this is a hair-wearing topic, so let’s talk hair. The more you wear it, you’ll get used to it. Look at yourself in all the mirrors (at home, in your car, in the elevators at the office, wherever).
Appreciate the new you. After decades of thin or thinning hair, an older relative finally began wearing hair, and suddenly she looked nearly ten years younger. With new hair and outfits came new confidence that you could SEE her. She didn’t garner looks because people were talking about her wig but because she looked fantastic!
Sometimes out on the street, we see people we know we could help and want to grab them in a big hug and say, “Girl, come to have great hair with me!” But, besides it being inappropriate to grab strangers in public, everyone comes to hair wearing in their own way, in their own time. If that time is now for you, I promise you will not regret it.
Lovely Transformation by Lovely Hair Toppers
Do you have any long-haired Instagram followers?
Instagram is a fantastic virtual community for people who wear hair (hair toppers or wigs). When you do this, the world of wearing hair abruptly undergoes a significant alteration.
Like you, there are literally millions of lovely ladies, young and old, who wear their hair every day. And a lot of people share their experiences—good and bad—with alopecia areata, alopecia totalis and Universalis, androgenic alopecia, and chemo hair loss by posting pictures of themselves wearing several wigs or toppers.
Many of them express their thoughts about hair loss, saying that it stole their self-esteem until they could reset their emotions and emerge from hair loss with a fresh outlook.
Many people who wear wigs relate daily frustrations with them, such as steamy summer days, wig nape knots, wearing wigs at the gym or pool, or how to let people know they do so.
In Michigan, especially in mid-Michigan, 2% of the population, or around 3,000 people, have hair loss. Amount: 3,000 (out of about 115,000).
They are where? The woman you admire in Meijer might be WEARING her hair, not growing it. And you wouldn’t know!
Have you ever received hair-related praise while shopping? Not being aware (and keeping a secret) that it’s not your natural hair? You’ve probably experienced this experience.
But what if you talked to someone online and asked them about their hair, and they asked you about yours? It is tough to discuss hair loss in public.
It may take years to become accustomed to it. Instagram provides a secure forum for discussing hair loss experiences. Knowing someone wears hair makes it simpler to approach them and inquire about it.
To share that they wear hair, some ladies set up separate accounts (but they don’t share those accounts with people they know in real life!)
Almost every celebrity you’ve seen has worn hair, whether it be wigs, toppers, or extensions. THEM ALL.
They wear it in photos, undoubtedly on the red carpet. When paparazzi photographers are around, many celebrities wear their hair in a way that keeps them looking good. With wearable hair, you can never have a terrible hair day.
