Who knew romance could blossom right in front of your very eyes? It did for Amy Robach and T. J. Holmes! The longtime NBC News anchor and the Good Morning America weekend co-anchor were married in New York City on Saturday, and they revealed to E! News how they met and how their courtship began.
We first met at the airport, Robach told us of Holmes, who she wed in a ceremony at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, New York, just north of Manhattan.

Meet Cute

Amy met her now-husband, TJ, on the set of GMA in 2005 when he was a correspondent and she was filling in as a news anchor. I remember thinking to myself, ‘Wow, this guy is so handsome,’ she says.
He had this great smile. At the time, they were both married to other people — but that didn’t stop their sparks from flying (and eventually leading to an off-air romance).

The First Date

Amy Robach is an anchor for ABC News and has been in the industry for over 20 years. She met her now-husband, T.J., on a blind date set up by his friend in 2002, when she was working as a correspondent for Good Morning America and he was anchoring the evening news at NBC News.
He was just really cool, she says, and we had so much to talk about. They married in 2009 and have three kids together.

Defining the Relationship

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are two of the most well-known anchors on ABC News, and for years they have been one of the few black news anchors on national television.
They have known each other since 2008 when they worked together at NBC News in New York City. Their relationship was kept a secret until 2013 when they were spotted at a Yankees game in the Bronx together by fans and paparazzi.
Robach and Holmes then went public with their romance and appeared together on ABC News’ morning show Good Morning America to discuss their relationship in 2014 after working side-by-side for over five years.

Moving In Together

When Amy Robach and T. J. Holmes first announced their engagement in 2018, it was a surprise to many — not just because they had kept their relationship so private, but because they had only been together for a few months.
It wasn’t until they shared the details of their courtship that people began to understand why the two were so committed to each other.
The story of how Amy and T. J. fell in love is one of patience and mutual respect. Despite being connected through a mutual friend, the two didn’t meet until 2015, when Amy moved from New York to Los Angeles to take on a new role at ABC News.
After meeting, the two started dating but decided to take things slow, since both were newly divorced.
Fast forward to 2018, when Amy and T. J. made it official. Despite the whirlwind romance, Amy and T. J. managed to move in together fairly quickly — something that many long-term couples struggle with.
In an interview with People Magazine, the couple shared that they had done so much research on living together beforehand that they had a plan before they even made the decision to take the plunge.
In Amy and T.J.’s case, living together was clearly the right decision — they recently announced their wedding date in April 2019! We couldn’t be happier for them and wish them a lifetime of happiness!

The Proposal

Amy and T.J. met in 1998 when she came to work for the local TV station where he was anchoring a show. She was, by her own admission, unimpressive at the time: I had these big hair extensions, this giant fake tan, and like two pieces of clothing.
But he invited her to do an interview with him on-air – and then took her out for drinks after work that night, where they hit it off immediately. He was just so funny, she recalls fondly. And I thought he was cute!
Amy left her job at the station soon after their first date – but the two stayed in touch over the years and eventually reconnected when she returned to TV journalism as a reporter for ABC News in 2003.

The Wedding

After being married for five years, Amy Robach and T. J. Holmes tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in July 2020. The two were first introduced through a mutual friend and quickly developed a bond.
The couple said I do in front of an intimate gathering of family and friends at a private estate in California. The bride wore a white silk gown and the groom was dressed in a traditional black tuxedo.
The ceremony was officiated by the couple’s pastor and included a unity candle ceremony and a personalized vows exchange. After the wedding, the happy couple celebrated with their guests at an elegant outdoor reception complete with live music and a delicious dinner.
It was a beautiful day for the newlyweds to start their life together. We are excited to follow Amy and T.J.’s journey as they embark on this new adventure as husband and wife.
